WILTON, CT: Monday, April 29, 2024 — Wilton resident Kim Healy, who currently serves as a member of the town’s Board of Selectmen, announced today that she is running for State Representative in the 42nd legislative district

Healy, a Republican, filed paperwork last Thursday, April 25 to run for the district that includes Wilton and small portions of New Canaan and Ridgefield. She also issued a press release Monday to GOOD Morning Wilton and posted a teaser announcement on her social media:

Healy’s paperwork indicates she has registered a candidate committee called “Kim Healy for CT,” and the filing form lists Wilton resident Ellen Essman as Healy’s campaign treasurer.

Editor’s note: If elected to the state legislature, Healy will be able to continue serving on the Board of Selectmen. Healy is participating in the Citizens’ Election Program to fundraise for her campaign.

Healy is running for a seat currently held by Wilton resident, Democrat Keith Denning. Denning announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election. Healy had run unsuccessfully against Denning two years ago when the district was first formed.

Now, Healy will face Democrat Savet Constantine in November. Constantine announced she was running for the seat via press release in March. Constantine has never held elected office in Wilton or in Connecticut.

Healy was first elected to the BOS in 2021. As selectwoman, she also serves on the Water Pollution Control Authority, Wilton Employees Retirement Plan Investment Committee and the Trust Fund for Post-Employment Benefits.

At the state level, Healy was appointed to the CT Reading Leadership Implementation Council by CT House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora in January 2022. The 12-member bipartisan council was created to provide guidance to the Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success, part of the CT State Department of Education.

Healy is also a member of the Wilton League of Women Voters, Wilton Garden Club, and Minks to Sinks, which she chaired or co-chaired for the last few years. Healy is a Trustee for the Family and Children’s Agency in Norwalk, the organization that benefits from Minks to Sinks.

Healy previously served for six years as a Board of Selectmen-appointed Trustee of the Wilton Library Association (where she was treasurer) and for one year as a member of the Wilton Conservation Commission. She also volunteered for Wilton Youth Council.

Healy and her husband, Michael Healy, moved to Wilton in 2008, and they have four children, ages 17-26. She is a CPA and a former auditor with PwC. She and her family are also active members of Our Lady of Fatima parish.

According to the press release, Healy has “a great deal of enthusiasm and a commitment to public service … and … brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the race. [She] is committed to … improving our community.”

The release also states that Healy is “committed to improving fiscal policy, public safety and educational outcomes of all children, [and] is adamant about fixing the current crisis in children’s reading outcomes throughout the state. … Healy is passionate about bringing civility and good policy to government.”

Pointing to the unanimous votes on the BOS during her tenure there, the release quoted Healy as saying, “It has taken hard work and deliberate, collaborative work to ensure we get the best outcomes for the residents. I will bring this work ethic to the state level.”

Healy made one other statewide bid, unsuccessfully challenging State Senator Will Haskell (D-26) in 2020.

The article was updated to clarify that Healy will be able to continue serving on the Wilton BOS if elected to the state legislature and to include her participation in the state’s CEP campaign fundraising program.
