Landmark Preschool has announced that it will be opening a comprehensive academic program designed for five-year-olds on its Ridgefield campus. The program will launch on Sept. 1 for the 2020-21 school year and will provide a full day of instruction beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The school says its Fives program will offer students “the gift of time” to develop a strong foundation of academic and social skills for a successful Kindergarten year. The curriculum, with a standard of excellence in academics, will be taught in a small, personalized classroom environment on the Ridgefield Academy campus.
Teachers will use a hands-on approach to instruction that is designed to engage children in their learning and help younger students adjust to the social and academic demands of school. The low 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio will allow faculty to provide individualized attention to meet the developmental needs of each child.
The program also offers the benefit of access to the services and facilities enjoyed by Ridgefield Academy students in K-8. Students will study math and science in the Kitchen Lab, art and music in studios, perform in Turner Hall, and attend classes in the library and full-sized gymnasium.
“We are excited to expand our preschool offerings on the Ridgefield campus to include a Fives program. Our dedicated faculty are eager to deliver this engaging experience and curriculum to these students as we help them prepare for Kindergarten,” said Alison O’Callaghan, head of Preschool and Lower School. “We are committed to academic excellence in all areas of our program and the addition of a Fives program allows our school the opportunity to extend learning for children who can benefit from another year of academic and social preparation and growth.”
