To the Editor:
I’ve always liked the title of this website, GOOD Morning Wilton and its editor’s commitment to report GOOD things happening in our Town. I recently had breakfast with long time Wilton residents, Barbara Quincy and Dick King to learn about an organization they are passionate about. As I listened to them talk about Stay at Home Wilton, I thought, now this is a GOOD thing and I should share it.
Stay at Home Wilton was formed in 2010 to help seniors stay in their own homes and community for as long as possible. The services they provide are broad from help with home repairs and transportation to seminars on identity theft and Medicare issues. Most importantly Stay at Home provides a social network for its members with a wide range of activities offered every month. Seniors not only participate as members, but in many cases as the volunteers that drive the organization’s efforts.
As I listened to Barbara and Dick recount member stories of everything from a birthday party for a member who no longer had family in the area, to volunteers climbing ladders to change light bulbs or driving members to town for grocery shopping and doctor’s appointments, I thought of my late mother and how she would have benefitted from such an organization. I thought of the peace of mind I would have had knowing that she had a network of people to help with the little things I could not do from many miles away.
Stay at Home Wilton is the definition of neighbors helping neighbors. I hope your readers will visit their website to learn more about the GOOD news. If you’re a senior I hope you’ll consider joining. If you’re not a senior yet I hope you will consider lending your time, talents, and financial support to this worthy organization.
