To the Editor:
In the past couple weeks, several thousand Wilton voters have turned out to cast ballots in a Presidential Primary (almost 4,000 voters) and in an Annual Town Meeting/Budget Referendum (more than 2000 voters).
Running two voting events within a week requires lots of advance planning from the registrars of voters who make preparations long beforehand. We’re especially thankful for the extraordinary dedication of our team of more than 100 workers and many town employees. We offer our sincere thanks to primary moderators Jim Burch, Paul Lourd, Alex Corra, Kim Nabulsi and Joy Ruterman; to our assistant registrars Janet Anderson, Karen Birck, Sibylle Kinley, Annalisa Stravato, Barbara Quincy, Linda Fein, Del Overby, and Fred Sindel; and to all of our poll workers, on-call office assistants, and absentee ballot counters. Deputy registrars Joy Ruterman and Kim Nabulsi went above and beyond in helping with pre-election testing of our voting machines, supervising absentee voting, and answering hundreds of phone calls that came into our office. All of our workers—too many to name here—were indispensable to a smooth running primary and budget vote.
The Wilton Public Schools’ staff, who open our voting districts at 5 a.m., secure parking for voters, obtain equipment for the polling places, and close up late, are always courteous and helpful. We also thank the Wilton Police Department for their security help on Primary Day; our town’s IT Department who posted the Town Meeting videos online; Wilton’s Department of Public Works for posting voting reminder signs around town; and our dedicated crew—Albert DeVito, Bobby Flemming, and Pat Cavalieri—for setting up and breaking down the polling places.
