Alison Milwe Grace, the culinary master behind Wilton-based AMG Catering is promising an event not to be missed, for the Wilton Library Association’s “Beyond Words” spring fundraiser on Friday, May 1.  As the caterer for the Kentucky Derby-themed event, she has planned a menu and a night with the event committee by pulling out all the stops.

“I had so much fun planning this menu because what better food is there than food with a southern flair!” Grace says.

Of course to kick off a great party, it takes some great cocktails. “We’ll have some signature cocktails–Mint Juleps and Oak Lilies, because those are two traditional cocktails at the Derby.” Adding to the festivities will be a Bourbon tasting lounge.

Grace lists off the delicious sounding passed appetizers that she has planned:  “crab cakes; shrimp and grits on a tasting spoon; a chicken liver bourbon paté with green apples; brie and peach tartlets; and pulled pork on sweet potato crisps.”

For dinner it gets even better:  mint-julep glazed port tenderloin; blackened salmon with remoulade sauce;  honey bourbon-glazed BBQ chicken breasts; homemade mac-and-cheese; roasted spring vegetables; green salad; and chive-and-cheddar biscuits with honey butter.

For the piece-de-resistance…dessert, which gets even more mouthwatering: mini red velvet cupcakes, mini key lime pies, and mini pecan tartlets.”

Grace says the menu was a pleasure to put together, knowing how well it fit the theme created by the volunteer committee that’s organizing the party.

“We don’t have any pre-set menus because we like to listen to the clients first and then design the menu. We work very hard on the personal relationship with the client. With this menu I knew we needed to do dishes that reflected the Derby, and things that were very Southern.”

AMG works with individual clients as well as larger events, and is in high demand. They’re catering a party for Frazier Woods Montessori in Newtown for 200 guests the night after the Wilton Library party. They have also catered events for other libraries, including those in Westport and Ridgefield, the latter of which used Grace and her team for their grand reopening last year. But she says she’s especially looking forward to partnering with Wilton’s library.

“We’re really excited, because we haven’t done a huge event in Wilton, which is where we’re based. That’s really exciting! The Library is a really cool space, it’s always fun to have a new space to work with and create an event. And we’re honored to have been chosen–we try to do good for the community as a small business in the town of Wilton. It makes sense for us all to work together,” Grace adds.
