Another active week (December 11-17) is ahead with multiple chances for snow and a very significant cool down, which will usher in the coldest air so far this season.
Monday, Dec. 11: On Monday, temperatures will remain chilly at nearly 10 degrees below normal into the upper 30s. At least the sun will be out for the most part in the form of partly cloudy skies. There is the chance for a few snow showers to move through between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m., so a quick dusting of up to an inch of snow may fall. Along with that snow, expect some possible travel issues at the start of the day.
Tuesday, Dec. 12: On Tuesday, a clipper system–a fast-moving area of low pressure from Canada–will bring a light snow inland and rain to the coast during the pre-daylight hours. Then after the sun rises during the morning, I anticipate everything to change over to rain, thanks to warm air seeping in from the north, although snow may continue to fall in locations north of Danbury. Roads may be slippery during the morning hours despite this changeover, so school delays are possible inland. By the afternoon, we’ll dry out and the sun will come out.
Wednesday, Dec. 13: Behind Tuesday’s clipper system will be another blast of cold air–one that likely will be the coldest of the season so far. Temperatures will only max out in the mid 20s, and clouds moving in around midday due to lake-effect snow in the interior Northeast. It will also be windy with gusts up to 35 mph.
Thursday, Dec. 14: Thursday morning will feature the coldest temperatures of the week, dropping down to only around 10 degrees. By the afternoon, temperatures will get up to the mid- to upper 20s under sunny skies.
Friday, Dec. 15: On Friday, I’m currently forecasting a mix of sun and clouds, but there is the potential for another coastal storm, so I do have the chance for snow in my forecast due to that very low threat in the form of afternoon snow showers.
Saturday, Dec. 16: Saturday should be a pretty nice day with mostly sunny skies and temperatures finally rising above freezing!
Sunday, Dec. 17: In comparison, Sunday will feel downright balmy with a high temperature above average into the mid 40s under sunny skies. Now that seems like a very nice winter day.
