Marian Cocoros died peacefully on July 19, 2026, at her place of residence, The Greens at Cannondale, in Wilton. She was 100 years old. She celebrated her centennial birthday in April, where she had cake and champagne and enjoyed the love and company of many family members and friends from across the country. Her immediate family was with her in the days leading up to her passing.

Marian Safrithis was born April 26, 1926, in Odenton, MD, to Greek immigrants Spiros and Dionisia Safrithis. She and her identical twin Artemis were the youngest of eight siblings. The family settled in Chicago, and after graduating from the city’s Lakeview High School in 1944, Marian put her excellent typing and shorthand skills to work as a secretary during the postwar and Mad Men eras. Her strong independent streak and keen sense of humor served her well throughout her life.

In January 1960, she married William Cocoros, and together they raised two children and remained together until his death in 2011.

The couple moved to Rochester, NY in 1961, back to Chicago in 1968, then to Wilton in 1969. In 2000, they moved to Denver, where they would spend the next 11 years side by side, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains.

Marian was loved by all who knew her. She loved her family and was especially close to her four sisters, oftentimes collapsing with them in peals of laughter. She taught art appreciation to elementary schoolchildren, drove the elderly to their medical appointments and volunteered at Weir Farm National Historic Park in Wilton. She was a highly effective confidant and sounding board for her friends and family members, dispensing wise advice and counsel. She had a colorful fashion sense, collected midcentury costume jewelry, and was affectionately known for her many brooches and bangles.

Marian is survived by her daughter Lela Goldstein (Jon), son Dion Cocoros (Elizabeth) and grandchildren Bill Goldstein (Brandy Burdick), Anna Cocoros and Alex Cocoros.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Cocoros; brothers Angelo, Nick and Peter Safrithis; and sisters Athena Maras, Dorothy Robertson, Margaret Safrithis and Artemis Mitchell.

A celebration of life is planned for later this year. Kane Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
