The Wilton Parks and Recreation Department has official opened registration for Wilton Weekday Warriors, the town’s new after school care program. The program was developed when many Wilton families were shut out of the Wilton Continuing Education/Wilton Public Schools‘ before- and after school care program after registration to that program filled up within hours of opening online.
Wilton Weekday Warriors is an after school care program aiming to provide care to children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
According to a release from the Parks & Rec office, the program was designed with input and “outreach from parents who needed a program that would provide an after school setting while also instilling academic and social growth. The focus of Parks and Recreation staff was to structure Wilton Weekday Warriors to be dynamic, relaxing, and engaging. The final product is an admirable after school care program that emphasizes the most important parts of school as well as the most fun parts of recess.”
The program will run from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will follow the town of Wilton’s school schedule, including time off for snow days and holidays. The after school care program will cater to children in elementary school. Children to instructor ratios will stay at or below 5:1, ensuring a comprehensive and quality experience, say officials.
Participants will be provided down time for free play, organized games, and a healthy snack immediately after school. Organizers say this “will allow children to unwind and prepare for the academic portions of after school care.” In addition, several special events will be scheduled, including some that Parks & Rec currently runs for children currently enrolled in Camp Looper, including Ice Cream Emergency, a walk-in ice cream truck/parlor, as well as trips to the My Three Sons arcade in Norwalk. The after school care program will also feature special guests that organizers say, “will provide fun and unique learning opportunities,” and that, “no two weeks will be alike.”
Wilton Weekday Warriors kicks off on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Comstock Community Center (180 School Rd.). Registration is available online and in person at the Parks and Recreation Department at Comstock Community Center.
