Goddard School Families Make Dravet Foundation Donation

The Wright family of Wilton has been very active supporting and fundraising for the Dravet Foundation, in support of their daughter, Ella, who has Dravet Syndrome, a very serious form of epilepsy. Their youngest daughter, Clara, is a student at Wilton’s Goddard School. This past week, the school and many of the families with children enrolled there made a very generous donation to the Dravet Foundation in honor of Ella.

Goddard had a “Butterflies for Ella” effort, and families could ‘purchase’ one of different colored butterflies, with each color assigned a different dollar value. Each butterfly that someone purchased was hung up in the school’s entrance. On Friday, May 13, after just over a week, the school was able to present a check for $1,362—and Ella’s mom, Dana Haddox-Wright, says that the total is actually still growing.

“Our family is incredibly thankful to the Goddard families and the school. We could not believe how many families donated and we were overwhelmed by the generosity,” Haddox-Wright said.

JoyRide Spinraiser Celebrating #TeamJADAM Benefits LGBTQ Health Center

A little over three months ago, the video of Adam Keller‘s surprise flash mob proposal to Jared Marinelli went viral, garnering more than four million views, and counting. The two JoyRide Wilton instructors met and fell in love when Keller was hired as a new spin instructor and Marinelli was assigned to mentor him.

Friday evening, May 13, the two co-taught a spinraiser class to benefit the Norwalk-based Circle Care Center, a medical support organization for the LGBTQ community. JoyRide Wilton currently has #TeamJADAM shirts available, and a portion of the sale of each benefits Circle Care Center.

Walking the Walk to Fight Cancer at Relay for Life 2016

Wilton held its annual Relay for Life event on Saturday, May 14. Each year Wilton (like so many other communities across the globe) comes together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much, by raising funds to benefit the American Cancer Society. As of press time, almost $45,000 has been raised by the hundreds of participants.

Wilton resident and Middlebrook 6th grade teacher John Priest was the honorary chairman, speaking about his own successful battle waged this year against colon cancer, and leading the survivors’ lap which kicks off the relay. We’ve got pictures submitted by participants and supporters, and welcome any others readers would like to submit via email.
