Pilates Advantage Event Raises Over $4,000 for Hearing Aid Project
More than $4,000 was raised for The Hearing Aid Project thanks to over 100 attendees who took part in a benefit weekend organized by The Pilates Advantage, a Wilton exercise studio. Owner Mary Beth Young chose the charity in support of her own journey coping with sudden hearing loss.
Young programmed multiple events over the weekend, melding physical exercise with fundraising. On Friday, Nov. 1, a Sip & Shop event kicked off the schedule. The studio was transformed into a shopping bazaar complete with vendors, food and décor. Among the vendors who showcased their wares were Aroma Spa, Ava Bella Jewelry, Backroads Quilting, Quilts by Cindi Delfino, Kim Duffy–Peach Athleisure, Sabina Furst Designs Jewelry, Saltbox Press, Hers Boutique, Amy Kahn-Russell Jewelry, and author Kathryn Solllmann. In addition there was a raffle and floral arrangements from Michele Klink of Belden Botanics.
On Sunday, Nov. 3, The Pilates Advantage held a “Round Robin Workout” where participants could design their own workout. Young offered three different classes every half-hour, ranging from Reformer, Tower, Pilates Chair, Cardio to Piloga classes or chair massage offered by Kim Horner of Aroma Spa. Attendees were asked to make a suggested $50 donation to The Hearing Aid Project.
The Hearing Aid Project had a strong draw for Young, who was diagnosed eight years ago with Meniere’s Disease. She now lives with severe hearing loss and has faced struggles communicating with clients and being able to afford hearing aids. She’s able to mark her own fortitude by marking her business’ anniversary every year, staging a fundraiser for a different non-profit as part of the celebration.
“This year is my 12th anniversary and I wanted to raise money for a cause close to my heart to support the Hearing Aid Project run by the Hearing Aid Charities of America. I want to help people who have gone through what I have,” says Young.
The Pilates Advantage donation helps fund hearing aids for those who cannot afford them. For every $500 raised, the Hearing Aid Project refurbishes and provides hearing aids to those in need.
The Pilates Advantage is located at 414 Olmstead Hill Rd..
