The Wilton Conservation Commission invites all citizens to celebrate Earth Day by participating in the annual Townwide Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m.-noon.

Every spring enthusiastic residents spread out around town to pick up litter along roads and the banks of the Norwalk River. Each year, volunteers fill an entire dumpster with the litter they collect in three hours time. The loyal volunteer residents make a big impact, but there is always more work to be done and organizers need everyone’s help.

Individuals and organizations that would like to help clean up litter in Wilton are welcome to come to the Town Green on Earth Day, April 22 and choose from a list of sites that are in desperate need of attention. Wilton’s largest watercourse, the Norwalk River, is always in need of help as litter accumulates along its river banks. Work gloves, garbage bags and a dumpster will be available at the Town Green gazebo. Pinocchio’s Pizza is once again supporting the cleanup effort by donating vouchers for a free slice of cheese pizza for every volunteer.

Anyone interested in volunteering or organizing a group of volunteers can call the Conservation Commission Office at 203.563.0180 or simply stop by the Town Green at 9 a.m. on April 22. The event goes on rain or shine.
