Wilton Police Chief Michael Lombardo and Cathy Pierce, Director of Wilton Social Services, recently issued a joint announcement that they are linking up to make sure that Wilton seniors and disabled residents receive assistance, especially during times of emergency.

According to the release, Wilton Social Services has teamed up with Wilton Police in an effort to communicate with as many residents as possible who may need assistance during inclement weather. With the arrival of hurricane season, they are encouraging all residents to be prepared before any event occurs.

Social Services has about 100 names of people on their Emergency Contact List of seniors and disabled residents who live in Wilton. Both agencies will use this list to check on their well being during a major event in town that may place some in harm’s way. They are hoping to increase awareness and make sure that they have 100-percent participation of those who may need assistance during a catastrophic event in Wilton.

“It is important to know who they are, where they live, the special needs affected by loss of power and who we may contact in the event of an emergency,” the release stated.

The announcement pointed out that the list is confidential and only accessible to Social Services and police personnel. It states that police cannot offer rescue during every set of circumstances, but they will now have information that can be utilized to contact those who may assist.

Police are also asking neighbors of those who may need assistance during emergencies to take notice. They suggested that if you know someone who may need extra assistance during emergencies that you speak with them about an emergency plan and encourage them to contact Social Services at 203.834.6238 and ask to be placed on the Emergency Contact List.
