The weather last Friday, June 10 was gloriously beautiful, and the sight moving through Wilton Center was even more incredible. Spectators cheered and passing motorists honked as Wilton police officers running the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics carried the Flame of Hope through town.
The Torch Run kicked off the three-day CT Special Olympics Games, which took place all weekend (June 10-12) in New Haven and Hamden. Wilton officers were joined by their colleagues from Ridgefield as they ran the Wilton leg of the relay from the WEPCO complex, to Miller-Driscoll School, into Wilton Center to Town Hall. There, town officials (including first selectman Lynne Vanderslice, Police Chief Robert Crosby and Fire Chief Ron Kanterman) cheered as runners ran the Flame of Hope beneath the large American Flag that had been raised above the entrance roadway.
