Sunday, Oct. 16 is the Woodcock Nature Center‘s “Where the Wild Things Run” 5K Trail Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run. Previously a springtime event, this annual 5K is now a fall tradition.

The course is run almost entirely on Woodcock’s beautiful woodland trails. It will be approximately 90-percent trail with a mix of groomed trails, rugged trails and narrow bridges/boardwalks. The challenging terrain will highlight the diversity and beauty of the WNC property, enhanced by the beautiful autumn foliage.

Runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are welcome (although the trail is not stroller friendly). The Kids Fun Run course remains the same as previous years, taking runners around the grounds and rugged driveway past the Nature Center, Pavilion and Waterfall trail. This is a fun course appropriate for all ages. Parents are welcome to accompany their children.

Race day registration starts at 7:30 a.m.. The Kids Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 9 a.m.. Registration fees for the Kid’s Fun Run are $20, and 5K entry (all ages) is $35. The first 200 registrants receive WNC t-shirts. All proceeds support Woodcock’s environmental education initiative.
