The Wilton Relay for Life 2014 Committee is thrilled to announce that this year’s Wilton Relay will be held on Saturday, May 31 to Sunday, June 1.

“We are really happy that we were able to get this date in late May because for the first time that I can remember, this date will avoid the Jr. Prom, the Sr. Prom and the Wilton High School show. In addition, the end of May should bring warmer weather than we usually have for Relay,” says Sara Augenbraun, this year’s Wilton Relay for Life chairperson.

Augenbraun also noted that, “Wilton should be so proud of the American Cancer Society’s recent announcement that the death rate from cancer in the US has declined steadily over the past two decades. In fact, the cancer death rate for men and women combined fell 20 percent. The funds raised by Relay are in part the reason for this great progress in the fight against cancer.”

Mary Ann Lutz, Wilton’s Relay for Life co-chair added, “Relay is such a special event for the Wilton community.”

This year’s Relay Kick-Off will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 6-7 p.m. at Westy’s located at 65 Danbury Rd. (snow date Feb. 13).

Organizers said Kick-Off is an opportunity for the Wilton community to learn more about this year’s Relay, as well as the group’s future plans and goals. The Kick-Off features many special events:  not only will there be a slide show, the introduction of this year’s Relay Committee as well as the introduction of this year’s Honorary Chair, but also there will be a powerful luminaria ceremony and even a registration component.

As a special offer this year, the one team with the most money raised by Kick-Off  and the one team with the most participants registered by Kick-Off will be able to select their camp site first.

Everyone is welcome to attend Kick-Off and to join in the celebration.  Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served and there will also be a selection of Relay Gear for purchase, door prizes and more.
