Wilton teens who are ready to get their driver’s license or newly cruising the roads are invited to join Trackside Teen Center and Wilton Youth Council for a free Safe Driving Clinic designed to empower young drivers and equip them with the knowledge they need to stay safe. Parents are also welcome to attend.
The event will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at Trackside (15 Station Rd.).
This informative and engaging evening will feature a panel of local experts covering a range of essential topics for new and prospective teen drivers.
“Trackside is thrilled to offer this safe driving event and bring so many of our incredible community businesses and organizations together,” Trackside Director Lori Fields said. “It’s perfectly aligned with our mission of keeping our kids safe and offering programs and events that are useful and inspiring.”
“Wilton Youth Council is proud to partner with Trackside to co-host Safe Driving Night alongside so many dedicated community partners,” Wilton Youth Council Executive Director Chandra Ring said. “We are committed to empowering Wilton teens to make safe choices in all aspects of their lives. This parent-child educational event provides a valuable opportunity for teens and their parents to learn from experts and ask questions in a supportive environment.”
Attendees will learn:
- Car care basics from Wilton Auto & Tire
- Mastering driver’s ed with Fresh Green Light
- Understanding car insurance with Geico
- Using Safe Rides, a vital Wilton High School program
- Road safety best practices from the Wilton Police Department and the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps
The event will also include open discussion and a question/answer session. Participants are encouraged to come prepared with questions for the expert panel.
“At Fresh Green Light, we believe driver’s ed is just the beginning,” Steve Mochel of Fresh Green Light said. “Safe Driving Night is a fantastic opportunity for young drivers and just as importantly their parents to gain valuable real-world knowledge that complements their classroom learning and helps them become confident, responsible drivers.”
“Our Wilton first responders too often witness firsthand the devastating consequences of car accidents involving young drivers. Safe Driving Night is crucial in equipping teens with the knowledge and skills to avoid these tragedies. We’re committed to educating our future drivers and keeping Wilton’s roads safe,” Libby Nagle of Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps added.
This free event is open to all Wilton parents and teens. Organizers said it will be especially beneficial for current sophomores who are approaching driving age, but all teens are welcome.
