Semi-Final Win–in Penalty Kicks–Sends WHS Boys Soccer to State Championship Game [VIDEO]
For the first time in more than a decade, Wilton High School varsity boys soccer will be heading to the state championship game. The Warriors hope to wrestle the win from three-peat Class L state champion Daniel Hand High School (Madison) in the finals, this Saturday, Nov. 23 (time and place are still TBD).
Wilton earned the championship berth Monday night by winning its semi-final game in overtime (2-1) against Wethersfield on penalty kicks (4-2). Warrior dad Russ Schmidt (son Damien is a senior) recorded the winning kick, shot by senior Connor Uitterdijk (below).
Making the trip to the finals even sweeter is that the team will arrive there under a first-year head coach, Edwin Carvajal–himself a former WHS varsity soccer player. The Warriors finished regular season play at 8-2-6.
