Wilton’s Music on the Hill invites singers to rehearse and perform the Mozart Requiem as part of the 2016 Summer Chorus. Artistic director Ellen Dickinson will conduct.
Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-9 p.m., starting July 5 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church at WEPCO (48 New Canaan Rd./Rte. 106). The concert will take place on Thursday evening, July 28, also at St. Matthew’s.
The 60-voice Summer Chorus draws singers from across the region to rehearse and perform a major choral-orchestral work each July. Participants—music professionals and skilled amateurs—include members of church and community choirs, high school singers, and others seeking a choral home. All are welcome.
This is the 14th year of the Summer Chorus, its fifth under the auspices of Music on the Hill. Past years have included performances of cantatas by J.S. Bach; Mendelssohn’s Elijah with a two-piano orchestration by Artistic Director David H. Connell; Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass; and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, among others.
A minimum $40 contribution is suggested to participate in Summer Chorus. Singers must register in advance. For more information contact Dickinson via e-mail, or call 203.529.3133.
For those unable to commit to rehearsals in July, consider joining Music on the Hill at WEPCO for Summer Sings in August. Each Tuesday evening, Aug. 2 – 23, the group sings a different choral work with a different conductor. Choose a familiar favorite or try something new. No performance, no registration, no worries! Summer Sings are free, with donations welcome.
