Liam Smith, (above right), a recent graduate of Wilton High School, won two gold medals in the Fencing Senior and Junior (U20) Men’s Foil events at the Nutmeg State Games held in Danbury over two weekends in July. Smith will fence this fall at Ohio State University, the 2016 NCAA Fencing Team runner-up.

Ian Sanders, (above left), a rising senior at Wilton High School, also won gold in the Senior Men’s Epee event held on July 23.

Now in its 28th year, the Nutmeg State Games is the largest amateur, multi-sport sporting event in Connecticut. This year, 7,000-plus athletes ages 6-18 competed in twenty-two sports.
