UPDATE May 21, 12:30 p.m.–Wilton firefighters were dispatched to Horseshoe Rd., near the intersection at River Rd., and found a car pulled off to the side of the road, with its engine compartment fully engulfed in flames. The owner, who was the car’s only occupant, had been able to get out of the car unharmed very early before the fire spread.

According to the Fire Department’s incident report, the car’s owner said he had driven from Westport and felt the car was “not running right since [then].” He told firefighters that he pulled over when he realized the car might be on fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The car, a Honda Accord (year undetermined), was towed away from the scene.
