At an awards dinner last night, Wilton High School‘s Gary Chadwick was recognized by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA), naming him “Coach of the Year” for CT high school gymnastics. Each year the CHSCA Executive Board selects an outstanding coach for each recognized CIAC sport.
With him at the dinner were three out of four WHS seniors from the gymnastics team, Nicki Babkowski, Rebecca Poirier and Meredith Nash. The three girls had started their own gymnastics careers with him as coach when they were between 7- and 9-years old, first taking part in the Continuing Education gymnastics program that Chadwick has run at WHS until they were in 9th grade and able to be on his high school team. Some of those gymnastics team members even help him teach the current crop of 7-9 year old gymnasts who are enrolled in Chadwick’s Continuing Education program today.
