The Wilton High School senior class of 2019 will take the stage on February 7, 8 and 9 to showcase this year’s senior show, Getcha Prom On!
The WHS senior show provides a unique opportunity for any high school senior to participate in a theater production, creating a fun environment for class bonding and new experiences. Each senior show is different and reflective of the class that performs it, and this year is no different.
“Getcha Prom On!” is fun, funny, quirky, and high-energy, painting a portrait of a high school preparing for and ultimately hosting an 80s-themed prom. Backed by high-powered and iconic 80s tracks, Getcha Prom On! will be a nostalgic trip for parents, 80s prom dresses and all.
The diverse cast of characters portrayed by an equally diverse senior cast were hand picked and even hand written for the actors who play them. Seniors Andrew Kelso, Nick Furst, and George Murphy teamed up to tweak the script to perfection, molding the show to the strengths of the senior class members.
“The whole writing process was really rewarding; it was great to have that creative outlet. I think the audience will have just as much fun watching it as the senior class did putting it together,” says script writer and assistant director Kelso.
The same sentiment was mirrored by script writer and assistant director Furst. “Writing it was rewarding unto itself, but the best part was molding it to a very lively cast.”
Case in point: characters Becca and Jack, two students at the fictional Scamilton High School running for class president, are being played by actors Ava Kaplan and George Murphy, who were both class president candidates in real life. Nods to real-life senior class happenings abound, making Getcha Prom On! special for the class of 2019.
Performances are in Wilton High School’s Clune Center Auditorium on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m.. Tickets are $12 apiece. Seating is general admission and tickets will be available at the door.
