Wilton Library’s November/December art exhibition celebrates “Unhung Heroes,” opening on Friday, Nov. 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.. The exhibition showcases 20 area artists who have either never exhibited at the library before or have not been featured in the recent past. The artists work in a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, graphics, mixed media, drawings, photography and sculpture. The reception is free and open to the public.

Three of the artists are Wilton residents:  Dot Bergen, Niki Key and Joan Ogren. The group also includes artists from as close as Norwalk to as far away as Bayside, NY; they are:  Julianne Ashkenazi, Yorktown Heights, NY; Terri Cuddy, Peekskill, NY; Lorraine Gelard, Norwalk; Frances Goulart, Ridgefield; Ginger Jespersen, Weston; Lawrence Lazar, Westport; Paola Lazzaro, Redding; Emily Lopatin, Stamford; Judith Lumberton, Norwalk; Kazumasa Oda, Bridgeport; Lukiana Pilyugin, Redding; Maryann Piotrowski, New Canaan; Artemis Romell, Southbury; Cristina Sarno, Norwalk; Helene  Soller, Bayside, NY; Rose Stock, Yorktown Heights, NY; and Al Coyote Weiner, Fairfield.

Exhibiting at Wilton Library has earned caché for local artists, says Ed MacEwen, the library’s art chairman.

“The library gallery has become so well known as a wonderful exhibition space, that we have people from around the area wishing to show their works here. This exhibit gives them a chance to showcase their talents.” Close to 60 works encompass an array of styles and subject matter such as figures, portraits, still life, abstracts, botanicals, landscapes and more.

The majority of the pieces are available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. The exhibition runs through Thursday, Dec. 28, perfect timing for holiday gift-giving. The exhibition is open during regular library hours, which are Mondays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Fridays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1-5 p.m..
