This Thursday, July 13 is the opening of the Wilton Children’s Theater “Summerstage” production of Once on This Island, at the Clune Center Auditorium.
This musical is a heartwarming story-within-a-story set on an island of two different worlds–the “haves” and the “have nots.” It is also a story about a girl who breaks down the barriers between the two worlds and proves that love can conquer death.
The production is directed by the Wiremill Academy’s Mary Jo Duffy; the musical director is Chris Coogan and the choreographer is Dodie Pettit. The producers are Kim Witty and Karen Luchetta.
“What is amazing is that these kids have risen to the task of putting this show up in only 11 rehearsal days! There are 18 musical numbers, the ensemble is onstage almost the entire time and they all work together to ‘Tell the Story,'” says Duffy, referencing one of the show’s key musical numbers.
Members of the cast are in grades 7-10.
Performances are being held Thursday, July 13 and Friday, July 14 beginning at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the door on the night of performances.
