The Wilton Children’s Theater (WCT) is inviting Wilton to experience a beloved classic and come along on a “troublesome” musical performance of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man Jr., running Friday-Sunday, March 15-17 at Middlebrook School (131 School Rd.).
Secure your seat and prepare to be delighted by amazing costumes, singing and dancing from 54 talented young actors ranging from fourth to eighth grade. Meredith Willson’s melodic-comedic drama is set in July 1912, when a fast-talking traveling salesman, “Professor” Harold comes to River City, Iowa, where the town is hesitant to allow strangers in, especially ones trying to sell something. Harold calls himself a music professor, selling band instruments, uniforms, and the idea of starting a boy’s band with the local youth. However, to propagate better sales, he concocts a scheme to create a situation of concern for the town.
The show is directed and choreographed by Wilber Escobar, and the musical director is Barbara Speare. The show is produced by Mandy Dugan and Kaylie Pham. The set is designed and built by Brooke Burling along with Melissa DeBernardis and Mike Murin. Costumes and makeup were created by Alissa Helgesen and Danielle Westling.
Assigned seating tickets are available online. Limited tickets will be on sale at the door (purchased via QR code). Producers encourage advance ticket purchases — $15 for adults, $10 for students — as tickets for last year’s show sold out.
For more information on the performance visit the WCT website or email producers.
Performances are on Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 16 at 4 p.m.; and Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at Middlebrook Auditorium.
