As the cold weather approaches, Wilton Congregational Church invites the community to participate in its 60th Annual Coat Drive. Running from Sunday, Nov. 3 through Tuesday, Nov. 5, this long-standing project encourages residents to donate gently used coats and outerwear to help those in need across Wilton and neighboring towns. Collection will take place at Pilgrim Hall, with drop-offs accepted at the rear entrance of the church, located at 70 Ridgefield Rd. Coats can be left at the back parking lot door at any time from 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 3 until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
The donated coats will benefit several local organizations, including Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Open Doors Shelter, Person-to-Person, Pivot Ministries and Wilton Social Services. These organizations serve a diverse population, providing essential support to individuals and families in need. Men’s, women’s, and children’s coats are especially needed, and the goal of the drive is to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, has the warmth and protection they need to face the winter months ahead.
Wilton Congregational Church has a long tradition of service to others. The Annual Coat Drive is just one of the many ways the church seeks to make a meaningful impact. Throughout the year, the congregation offers numerous opportunities for involvement, ensuring that people of all ages can engage in acts of service. One example is the church’s partnership with Filling in the Blanks, a program dedicated to addressing childhood hunger by providing weekend meals to students in need. Other examples include an Annual Diaper Drive and a Christmas-season “Giving Tree.”
Children and youth play an important role in the church’s commitment to service. They participate in after-school activities and local service projects during the school year, fostering a spirit of giving from an early age. High school students have the opportunity to take part in an annual mission trip, during which they travel to assist communities outside of Wilton, gaining valuable life experiences while making a difference.
