Over the Wilton Public School February break, 15 teenage and adult volunteers from Wilton Congregational Church traveled to San Antonio, TX to serve their neighbors. Partnering with Blueprint Ministries, the group from WCC worked on the roofs of two houses in the city to make the homes healthier, safer and drier.
As an organization Blueprint seeks to restore homes and hope for low-income individuals and families living in substandard housing throughout San Antonio. To do that they welcome youth groups and volunteers from across the country to join them. Wilton’s group kicked off Blueprint’s 2024 home-repair season during which they will host over 900 volunteers over 14 weeks of service throughout the spring and summer seasons.
Beyond the transformation of the homes, the volunteers themselves returned changed.
“Doing God’s work in Texas filled me with so much joy because I got to create bonds with new friends all while helping people in the most fulfilling way possible,” Wilton High School sophomore Isabella Kaoud said.
Another veteran mission trip volunteer and high school sophomore Morgan Donahue felt the same way. “Serving our neighbors in San Antonio was such an amazing experience. We were able to help restore the homes of people so far away even as we got closer to friends from right here in town.”
Senior Savannah Joseph learned that everything — including love — is in fact bigger in Texas.
“Working together to help uplift other communities with the help of my siblings in Christ taught me about what it means to love fully,” Joseph said.
