SUNDAY, AUG. 18, 2024 — Wilton Emergency Management officials are continuing to warn residents about the dangers of rising flood waters and flash floods, as unprecedented levels of rain fell Sunday afternoon, Aug. 18 into Sunday evening.
Shortly after 9 p.m. the Wilton Fire Department issued an evacuation recommendation to Wilton residents located on the western side of Newtown Tpke., who live along the west branch of the Saugatuck River, between Stonebridge Rd. in Wilton and Broad St. in Westport.

Officials are urging residents to stay home and off roadways unless fleeing areas subject to flooding or under evacuation orders.
GOOD Morning Wilton has continuing coverage of this story, including damage and extensive flooding all around town.

Wow, very scary and sad. After 30 years of residency, I do not remember an evacuation situation. I hope every person is safe and sound. Thank you GMW for your live coverage on FB and to Wiltonians who posted on FB wilton 411. While I received one generic email alert with no specificity from town hall, the lack of communication was deafening. I am sure CERT, FD and PD personnel were more than busy heroically handling emergency situations however there should be a director of public communication during emergency situation. Knowledge is power, especially during emergency situations. Thank you
