The Super Bowl is almost a month in the past, but don’t worry, spring flag football is on the horizon to meet everyone’s football fun needs.

Registration is now open for Wilton Flag Football’s (NFL) spring 2021 season. The season’s first event is Saturday, April 3.

Flag Football is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in America and in Wilton. Wilton Youth Football and Cheerleading (WYFC) offers the program by grade level (K-12) and both boys and girls options.

Do you have a boy or girl interested in learning about playing flag football? New this year Wilton Flag Football is offering a ‘First Football’ event for K-2 students (boys/girls), on Saturday, April 3. All registrants new to flag football receive an NFL Flag football. Registration details can be found online.

Also new this spring, Wilton Youth Football is offering a 7th-8th grade division where the kids coach themselves. Kids register their team and Youth Football provides equipment, referees, a schedule, playoffs, and super bowl trophies to the league winner.

The programs are coordinated by WYF’s annually elected volunteer board of directors.

“We’re so excited for the Spring 2021 season,” said Tony Palumbo, volunteer vice president and flag football commissioner for WYFC. “We believe in a flexible and supportive atmosphere for the parents and kids. Our flexible scheduling philosophy supports kids playing multiple sports and volunteer coaches’ schedules. We are a family program run by a great group of volunteer parents, that make sure the kids come first in Flag Football.”

Following a COVID-free Fall 2020 season, WYFC will again follow health and safety protocols recommended by the CDC, the State of Connecticut, Wilton’s Health Director, and the Parks and Recreation Department. That means masks at appropriate times, social distancing off the field for players and always by coaches and spectators – all precautions that proved highly effective in the fall.

The spring season kicks off in early April for all ages. To sign up and for more information on the Spring 2021 season, please visit the Wilton Youth Football website and email any questions.
