Hello everyone, It is my honor to stand before you today and reveal to you the legacy that we all have helped leave behind at this school.
I’ve always thought it was a little strange how it’s called the “class gift” when, let’s be honest, most of the class never actually sees the results. So this year, student government wanted to change that. We wanted to leave behind something big — something you could see and be proud of. So big, in fact, that the astronauts on the International Space Station might even catch a glimpse… if they zoom in a bit.
Let’s be real — we all know the third-floor courtyard has been an eyesore for years. So we decided to use all of our class profits to turn it into something beautiful: a brand-new green roof. Not only will students now have a better view from the hallways, but they’ll also be able to actually go out there — from an entrance in the teacher lounge (sorry, humanities teachers). It’ll be a space to relax, take in some fresh air, and just breathe.
And yes — for those wondering — we did fund this the right way. No taxpayer money was harmed in the making of this gift. We did, however, lose a small chunk of our class funds to help pay our amazing custodial crew who had to remove a certain 2004 Dodge Dakota from the front entrance. Worth it.
Jokes aside, beyond how it looks, this garden is also practical — it’ll help drain over 87,000 gallons of water from the roof each year, improving the building itself.
So seniors, a few years from now, I want you to open up Google Maps, zoom in on that new green patch, and know that you helped make that happen.
