The Wilton High School swim and dive team swam to a 90-68 win over visiting Stamford/Westhill on Monday afternoon, Feb. 10 at the Wilton YMCA pool. The meet honored the following WHS swim and dive graduating seniors: Danny Babashak, Eric Ding (captain), Ethan Elias, Matt Garcia, Brian Huang, Jake Mercer (captain) and A.J. Yee (captain).

The Wilton Warriors started quickly by finishing first (Hirsh Iyer, Sam Jacobson, Gregory Pinchbeck and Andrew Mims) and third (Yee, Elias, Garcia and Babashak) in the 200 medley relay. Wilton’s Ethan Lam won the 200 freestyle with Adam Mims placing third. Stamford/Westhill won the 200 individual medley with Ding and Yee finishing second and third. Mercer won the 50 freestyle with Elias fourth and Garcia fifth in an all-senior race. Diving for this meet will be contested at a later date.

After the break, Iyer won his first of two individual events in the 100 butterfly with Lucas Fontana placing second. In a close race, Jacobson won the 100 freestyle with Pinchbeck third and Garcia fifth. In a race between the three senior co-captains, Yee won the 500 freestyle with Mercer taking second and Ding placing third. Wilton placed second (Elias, Andrew Mims, Mercer and Yee) and third (Jacobson, Fontana, Garcia and Ding) in the 200 freestyle relay. Iyer won his second event in the 100 backstroke with Pinchbeck second and Adam Mims third for Wilton. Stamford/Westhill won the 100 breaststroke; however, Wilton placed second (Jacobson), third (Harry Zhou) and fourth (Elias). Wilton finished the meet by placing first (Mercer, Babashak, Ding and Iyer) and second (Fontana, Lam, Pinchbeck and Adam Mims) in the 400 freestyle relay.

Wilton is now 7-2 on the season and will swim its final dual meet against Trumbull at the University of Bridgeport pool, on a date to be determined.
