BREAKING NEWS: Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025 — GOOD Morning Wilton has learned that Wilton has hired a controller for the Town Hall Finance Department.
According to a post she made on LinkedIn.com, Tracy Haberman, has accepted a job as controller for the Town of Wilton.
Town Administrator Matt Knickerbocker confirmed that Haberman “verbally accepted” the job offer to be Wilton’s controller, a position recently vacated by Tony DeFelice, who resigned to take a position with the Town of Fairfield.
The controller is responsible for overseeing the town’s accounting and financial reporting functions, and is second to the CFO in command of the Finance Department.
Most recently, Haberman was the director of client finance for Charter Impact, an organization that supports schools and nonprofits with financial and organizational support, according to its website. Haberman previously worked as an accounting coordinator for Weston Public Schools for five years before becoming the budget director/finance manager for New Canaan Public Schools, a position she held for eight years.
Finding a candidate for the controller job was critical for a department that has been both understaffed for a long time and has also seen high-profile departures in the last two months.
On Aug. 4, GOOD Morning Wilton was first to report that former CFO Dawn Norton had, supposedly without anyone in Town Hall being aware, taken a full-time in-person job as town administrator/finance director in Greybull, WY, starting in May 2025. She resigned shortly after town officials learned the details of Norton’s other job.
DeFelice had been appointed interim treasurer after Norton left, but he resigned at the beginning of September, and had his last day of full-time work on Friday, Sept. 19.
The town is still searching for a manager of financial systems and payroll, a position that has been unfilled for two years, and has recently made two new hires for other roles in the department.
Knickerbocker confirmed that Haberman will report to the CFO — or, for now the interim CFO. Joseph Centofanti, from the outside accounting firm of PKF O’Connor Davies, LLP, has been brought in to support the Finance Department as the interim CFO.
Knickerbocker said he did not yet know what date Haberman would be starting with Wilton.
