This past Friday, Dec. 2 was Wilton’s annual Holiday Stroll, a festive way to kick off both the holiday season and the holiday shopping season. Hundreds of people turned out to see Santa arrive at the Town Green and greet children after helping Wilton’s first selectman Lynne Vanderslice to light the town’s Christmas Tree.
People visited Wilton’s stores and the Wilton Library, enjoying refreshments and treats put out by the shop owners. They stopped into Local Soul, which used the occasion to mark the store’s official opening day. Several people helped the Wilton Woman’s Club Junior Leadership Program teens, who had a giving tree in the hopes of raising money for Wilton Social Services.
This year was the first year that people were also able to enjoy a bonfire at Schenck’s Island, courtesy of the Wilton Economic Development Commission. Families savored hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows as EDC commissioner Dan Berg tended to the flames. They also stopped by the big red chair to pose for pictures and admire the lights glittering around them.
