GMW’s Guide to July 4th, 2026 in Wilton: Parade, Fireworks, Parking & More

Celebrating July Fourth this year takes on a special significance with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This year also represents the 300th anniversary of Wilton’s independence — 1726 was the year the area settlers, who had built their own meetinghouse, were granted village/parish privileges, separating from neighboring Norwalk’s church.

Wilton will mark the day with a special flair, holding a July 4th Parade on Saturday morning and then cap the day with its much-loved 4th of July Fireworks tradition.

GOOD Morning Wilton has compiled details on Wilton’s public events as well as other need-to-know information, below.

July 4th Events

11 a.m.: July 4th Parade

Town Center

This year, the Town of Wilton is holding a July 4th Parade as a “celebration of community, history and country,” according to the Town website. Overseen by the Parks and Recreation Department, the Town has invited organizations and individuals to participate with floats, displays, reenactments or whatever way they’d like to mark Independence Day.

Parks and Recreation is also holding a “Bicycle Brigade Contest,” inviting kids of all ages and families to decorate bikes, trikes and wagons to show off patriotic spirit.

The parade will kick off at 11 a.m. starting in front of the Wilton River Park Shopping Center at 5 River Rd. It will wind its way through Wilton Center, along Old Ridgefield Rd. and Hubbard Rd., eventually ending up at the Town Green.

At the Town Green, the celebration will continue with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, live music and celebratory cupcakes and cookies.

Wilton Center streets will be closed to car traffic during the parade. The section of Old Ridgefield Rd. along the Town Green will remain closed until the ceremonies end at approximately 1 p.m. Motorists can bypass that closure using Godfrey Pl. and Hubbard Rd.

Every year the Wilton Republican Town Committee and Wilton Democratic Town Committee put aside their differences on July 4th and instead agree to have some fun on the softball diamond. The teams battle it out for bragging rights and the Frivolity Cup trophy.

5-9:30 p.m.: 4th of July Fireworks

Wilton High School Sports Complex

The DJ will begin playing music at 5 p.m. and fireworks are set to start at dusk around 9-9:15 p.m. 

Some residents turn out early to stake out a spot on the field below the stadium. Celebrants bring blankets, chairs and picnics or visit the several food trucks on site.

Propane containers and fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, are not permitted at the event. Pets are also prohibited at the event.

The Wilton Police Department will have uniformed officers onsite and will maintain a visible presence within the Wilton High School grounds, including strictly enforcing laws against underage drinking. Juveniles possessing alcohol or illegal substances will be banned from the event and charged as appropriate. Parents or guardians will be contacted and will be required to remove the juvenile from the event. School Resource Officers and school officials will also be notified.

With high temperatures forecast for the day, officials are encouraging everyone to bring plenty of water and take precautions to stay cool and safe in the heat. Current forecasts show a 50% chance of rain showers on Saturday, July 4. Anyone planning to use a tent or canopy should be prepared to lower it quickly should the wind increase.

Parking & Traffic 

Road traffic for the July 4th events will be particularly strict this year, with road closures and bridge work at Cannon Rd. and Honey Hill Rd. complicating typical detour routes. Wilton Police have issued specific details for people with parking passes at the lots surrounding the Wilton High School Sports Complex as well as pedestrian pickup directions.

Parking lots will open at 5 p.m. The event is free to attend but there is a fee for parking. While parking passes must be purchased in advance for reserved parking lots, the Parks & Rec website shows that all advanced parking passes are now sold out. The advance reserved lots include the Rte. 7 Tennis Court parking lot, Route 7/School Rd. gravel parking lot, Cider Mill School parking lot, Wilton Board of Education parking lot, and Lilly Way athletic fields parking lot.

Rte. 7 will close to vehicles without passes at 7 p.m.

Vehicles without a valid parking pass will not be allowed to park in any of the reserved, pre-paid parking lots even if space permits. Parking pass holders should have passes viewable on a mobile device or printed, and have it available prior to reaching the collection points.

Kristine Lilly Way is closed to traffic in the area of the tennis courts. Passholders are asked to enter the complex using the designated entrance for their selected parking lot. There will be no other way to access parking areas other than these listed below.

Cider Mill Parking Lot: 
* Enter from School Rd.
* Exit: cars will be directed North on School Rd. to Ridgefield Rd.

Pump Station Lot:
* Enter from School Rd.
* Exit: cars will be directed south on Rte. 7

Tennis Courts Parking Lot:
* Enter from School Rd.
* Exit: cars will be directed south on Rte. 7

Accessible Parking (Tennis Courts):
* Enter from Catalpa Rd.
* Exit: cars will be directed north on Kristine Lilly Way, through the high school campus to Rte. 7 north

Wilton High School Junior Lot:
* Enter from Catalpa Rd.
* Exit: cars will be directed north on Kristine Lilly Way, through the high school campus to Rte. 7 north

Board of Education Lot:
* Enter from Catalpa Rd.
* Exit: cars will be directed onto Catalpa Rd., through the high school campus to Rte. 7 north

On July 4, parking for a cash-only fee of $20 is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the following parking lots: Middlebrook School, Kristine Lilly Field/WHS Senior Lot, Stamford Health (372 Danbury Rd.), and Allen’s Meadow. Same day passes cost $20 and will be available for purchase from the checkpoints on Rte. 7 as well as Middlebrook Farm Rd.

This year, the Wilton YMCA (404 Danbury Rd.) has also made parking available for the July 4th fireworks (at the YMCA parking lot across from Wilton High School). The cost to park is $25 for members and $45 for nonmembers. Parking passes are available for purchase online.

No vehicles will be permitted into the event or parking area at the conclusion until Rte. 7 is reopened.

Pedestrian Pickup After the Event: To pick up someone at the conclusion of the fireworks, enter the area from Rte 7. southbound by Olmstead Hill Rd. All vehicles will be directed to Allen’s Meadow Field where pedestrians may be picked up.

Attendees are asked to drive slowly and pay close attention to pedestrian traffic and Wilton Police officers/Wilton CERT staff who will be directing traffic. 

Closures

Ambler Farm will not open its Farm Stand on Saturday, July 4, and the farm will be closed that evening in the interest of safety. The fields and parking areas are not lit, so Ambler Farm cannot safely accommodate visitors after dark and all farm parking areas will be closed that evening. Parking is not permitted on Hurlbutt St.

Wilton Library will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

Village Market is open, but will close early at 5 p.m.

Stop & Shop is open all day until 9 p.m.
