It is usually the mantra of a realtor that customers first look at curb appeal as they enter a home, and the same is true with Wilton Library. With that in mind, the library is sprucing up its face with a set of new doors for the front entrance beginning Wednesday, March 4.
The installation of the new doors should take about a week, providing new safety, security and energy benefits for library visitors and the facility.
“The original doors have taken a beating over ten years of harsh New England winters. We’ve tried to adjust and repair them after each season but the weather has taken its toll on them,” says Bob Correa, the library’s building operations and security manager.
The replacement project has been in the works for a period of time, with the library looking for vendors that could provide an entry with the same appearance but in a more resilient material.
“We worked very hard to maintain the same look as the original doors so that the integrity of the modernist architecture remains but the functionality will be much improved,” notes Correa.
The library front entrance will be closed on Wednesday, March 4 so that the original doors can be dismantled. Patrons will be re-directed to another set of doors further down the parking lot toward Old Ridgefield Rd.. Over the course of the week, the new exterior doors will be installed and people will be able to use one side or the other in the front entrance during the installation.
“We’re delighted to be able to do this mid-winter construction. The current doors don’t close properly and then cold air blasts into the building. We’re trying to minimize any inconvenience to our patrons because we know the installation will be a big improvement. The weather has not been our friend so we’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new doors, spring and warmer temperatures,” adds Elaine Tai-Lauria, the executive director of the library.
As usual during library hours, the drive-thru window on Godfrey Pl. is available to drop off or pick up materials. Wilton Library hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Fridays 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturdays 10 am. – 5 p.m. and Sundays 1 – 5 p.m..
