The Wilton Playshop is looking forward to its opening of the groundbreaking musical ‘RENT,’ running from Friday, Oct. 25 to Saturday, Nov. 9. This iconic production, created by Jonathan Larson, celebrates the resilience of youth, the power of love and the pursuit of dreams against the backdrop of New York City’s vibrant arts scene.
‘RENT’ tells the powerful story of a group of friends navigating the complexities of life, love and loss in the East Village, grappling with the realities of poverty and the impact of the AIDS epidemic. With its unforgettable rock score and compelling characters, this musical is a testament to the spirit of community and the importance of embracing life in the face of adversity.
The production features a talented local cast, dynamic choreography, and a live band that will bring Larson’s music to life. Audiences can expect a captivating experience that celebrates love in all its forms and challenges societal norms. The show is directed by David Halliwell, with music direction by Chris Coogan and choregraphed by Wilber Escobar. It is being produced by Laura Ploss and stage managed by Beth Davison.
This production contains mature themes, scenes of intimacy, death drug use and coarse language. Playshop officials say they do not recommended it for children.
‘RENT’ opens Friday, Oct. 25 and closes Saturday, Nov. 9. Evening performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; matinees are on Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults and $30 for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased online.
