After responding to a report of suspicious people soliciting door-to-door, Wilton Police arrested a 25-year-old Danbury man on weapons charges.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, April 20, police found multiple solicitors, including Jared Lee Dement on Breeds Hill Pl. in North Wilton, near Nod Hill Rd.. After making contact with the individuals, police searched a vehicle belonging to one of the solicitors and recovered a loaded handgun allegedly belonging to Dement. Police say that Dement, a Texas resident, recently moved to Connecticut, and reportedly has no valid pistol permit.

The gun they recovered is a Springfield Armory XD 9mm hand gun, similar to the one pictured here.

Police also found multiple, unregistered high-capacity magazines, which they say also belong to Dement.

Dement was taken into custody, and charged on two counts–illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and unregistered large-capacity magazines. He was later released on $5,000 bond, and received a court date of April 30 in Norwalk.

Lt. Robert Kluk of the Wilton Police said that the weapon and magazines were seized by police. While the court will eventually decide what happens to the firearm, Kluk said most like it will be destroyed when the case is done.
