The Wilton Police Department has purchased new firearms⎯the Glock 9 mm⎯and now will make sure all members are well trained on how to use them.
To do so, the department will be conducting training at the Town Landfill on Mather St., between Sept. 14 and Oct. 9. According to WPD spokesman Lt. Stephen Brennan, the entire department will be trained and qualified in the use of this type of weapon.
The Glock is a semi-automatic pistol that is widely popular with police and military forces worldwide.
The training will take place during the landfill’s normal business hours, on weekdays only. Brennan said that an agreement with the town stipulates that residents be notified when such training is scheduled, as area residents will likely hear sounds of gunshots during the training.
He added that the practice is part of annual qualification and training the department regularly goes through.
Should residents have any questions, they’re encouraged to contact the Wilton Police Department directly at 203.834.6260.
