The Wilton Police Department is bringing back its Citizen Police Academy, an initiative to educate participants about various aspects of police work. The 8-week course will give participants insight into how the police department works and provides services to the community.
The initiative began in 2007, but was put on hiatus a few years later; it’s now being restarted with the goal is to connect the community and the police by teaching about all areas of the department: patrol procedures, detective division, crime scene investigation, youth crimes, motor vehicle enforcement (speed enforcement, D.U.I., etc.), firearms, TASER usage, technology in law enforcement, and specialty units–K9 Unit, Emergency Response Team, and Scuba–as well as many other aspects of policing. Participants will also learn about the department’s history.
The Academy begins on Thursday, Sept. 15, and will meet every Thursday night from 7–9:30 p.m. for eight weeks. Classes will be held at Wilton Police Headquarters, 240 Danbury Rd..
Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old and live or work in Wilton. There is limited space for participants. To apply, contact Cathy Horn at 203.563.0259 or via email.
