Sunday, Oct. 1 is World Quaker Day, and the Wilton Quaker Meeting has invited the community to learn more about their group.

As even the meeting members themselves acknowledge, the wider community may not know a significant amount about Quakers around the world or here at home. From a release they sent to media:  “Your image of Quakers may be from the box of oats or from famous depictions like Gary Cooper in the award-winning movie, Friendly Persuasion, but Quakers are right here in our own community as well!”

The nearest active group is the Wilton Quaker Meeting at 317 New Canaan Rd. in Wilton.

World Quaker Day at Wilton Quaker meeting will feature a talk by Steve Winfield, a member of the Friends Committee on National Legislation, a national organization, founded in 1943, to lobby on behalf of issues related to the Quaker testimonies of peace, equality, simplicity, community and integrity. The talk will start at 11:45 a.m. this Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Wilton Quaker meeting.
