Wilton Ranks at Number 2 on “CT’s Safest Cities” List
Fresh on the heels after learning Wilton was named the 2nd Best CT Town to Raise a Family, we’ve earned another top honor. Alarm System Reviews, a Virginia-based security industry website, has ranked Wilton as number 2 on the list of 30 Safest Towns in Connecticut.
To determine the list of safest places to live in Connecticut, Alarm System Reviews collected, compared and analyzed data from several sources, including the FBI’s annual Uniform Crime Report. In order to make a fair comparison, the scope was narrowed to cities and towns with at least 2,500 residents.
Reviewers examined the total number of violent crimes and property crimes and compared those figures against the reported population to determined the rate-per-1,000-residents for each category; they then combined them to determine the overall rate of crime per 1,000 residents, and ranked CT’s towns and cities to determine the safest places to live in the state.
According to the site, which took into account Wilton’s population of 18,807, the town’s violent crime rate (per 1,000) was 0.1. Wilton’s property crime rate was just slightly higher at 3.2 per 1,000.
Among surrounding towns, only Ridgefield was higher on the list, coming in at the top spot (No. 1). The remainder of the list included Weston (3rd), Easton (4th), Redding (5th), New Canaan (8th), Greenwich (15th), Bethel (19th), Darien (22nd) and Westport (31st).
