Wilton was one of seven CT towns that received awards Wednesday, Jan. 7 from Live Green CT, a  6-yr-old non-profit organization serving many of Connecticut’s nationally recognized sustainability initiatives. The complete list of towns that received awards at a recognition event is:  Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Stamford, Westport and Wilton.

Wilton’s first selectman Bill Brennan was on hand to accept the award from Live Green CT! president and co-founder Daphne Dixon at Wednesday’s event in Fairfield. Each town was recognized for their work in creating resilient communities and for being founding Live Green CT! municipalities, according to materials provided by Live Green CT. Wilton was cited for “the Town’s fine leadership in smart energy management.”

The seven towns together are piloting a state-wide program launched by Live Green CT! that forges new “green” connections among cities, towns, business communities and the general public. The campaign showcases municipal energy-related data sharing and financial information around energy usage trends — including the transition to renewables. Leading by example, organizers say, the participating cities and towns will support smarter energy management in the residential and commercial sectors.

In turn, the organization hopes that Connecticut itself will serve as the model for other states as the initiative gains traction, once all the phases of the Connecticut program have been launched.

The event also celebrated the launch of Live Green CT!’s new website, livegreenCT.org.  A Case Study on the Wilton High School’s energy efficiency installations appears on the new web site, and during the event, Brennan spelled out the impressive cost savings of that particular Building Management System project and other details.
