The Wilton Police Department is hosting a farewell retirement dinner for outgoing police chief Michael Lombardo and the public is invited to attend.
The dinner will be held January 23 at 7 p.m. at Roberto’s Restaurant, 505 Main St. in Monroe. Tickets cost $55 and cover dinner and an open bar.
Lombardo, a 33-year veteran of the Wilton police force, tendered his resignation in November of last year when he was offered the position of Chief of Police in Trumbull, where Lombardo has lived for 23 years. A big proponent of community policing, Lombardo created a Citizens Police Academy in Wilton that educated and integrated residents into Police operations to provide them with a better understanding of how a police department works. Chief Lombardo also developed an officer of the year program in Wilton, to award and recognize those officers who go above and beyond the call of duty in properly protecting the public.
