Last weekend, Amherst, MA played host to approximately 1,100 gymnasts from over 30 YMCAs. They traveled there from six states in the Northeast to compete in the 2015 YMCA NorthEast Regional Gymnastics Championships, representing USAG levels 2 through Level 10 and Xcel Levels. Two Wilton sisters placed very high in their age groups, with one winning the top spot.
Both Bella DeStefano and Sofia DeStefano competed in level 4. Bella, a fourth grader at Cider Mill competed in the 10 year old age group, and Sofia, who is a Cider Mill third grader, vied in the 9 year old age group.
Bella placed 3rd overall with event scores as follows:
Vault 8.50, 3rd
Bars 8.75, 4th
Beam 9.35, 2nd
Floor 9.325, 2nd
All Around 35.925, 3rd
Sofia took 1st place, with high marks in all individual events:
Vault 9.35, 1st
Bars 9.05, 1st
Beam 9.725, 1st
Floor 9.6, 2nd
AA 37.725, 1st
Both girls competed for the Darien YMCA.
