In Wilton, spring youth soccer is quickly approaching!
Registration is now open for Wilton Soccer Association’s spring 2021 season, with a Monday, Feb. 15 deadline to sign up for the competitive travel soccer program and a Monday, March 15 deadline for the “soccer for all” intramural programs.
“We’re incredibly excited for the Spring 2021 season,” said Jason Partenza, volunteer president of WSA. “In the middle of the winter, it’s hard to think about getting ready for spring soccer, but we are already preparing. The Fall 2020 season was a great success amid unprecedented circumstances. We couldn’t be more excited to safely get kids out on the fields again as soon as possible.”
WSA runs programs for Tots/Pre-K (ages 3-5), Intramural (K-2nd grade and grades 3-8), Travel Development (ages 8-10), Travel (ages 10-15), and TOPSoccer (which provides learning, development and physical participation opportunities for young athletes with disabilities).
The programs are coordinated by WSA’s annually elected volunteer board of directors, who lead the “for Wilton children, by Wilton families” nonprofit, and are delivered by a combination of professional coaches and parent volunteers.
“We believe strongly in a healthy and welcoming community and competitive soccer program that provides opportunities for everyone,” said Partenza, “from kids just starting out, no matter their age, to more experienced players who have an eye on playing competitively now, in high school, and maybe even beyond.”
Wilton Soccer parent and volunteer Loralee Hamilton shared, “WSA provides great experiences, builds skills, promotes positive values like teamwork and leadership while building confidence and friendships. My children have had wonderful times in the programs, and I have enjoyed supporting the organization as a volunteer.”
Following a COVID-free Fall 2020 season, WSA will again follow health and safety protocols recommended by the CDC, the State of Connecticut, the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association, and Wilton’s Health Director and Parks and Recreation Department. That means masks at appropriate times, social distancing off the field for players and always by coaches and spectators, sanitizing and limitations on shared equipment – all precautions that proved highly effective in the fall.
The spring season kicks off in early April for all ages. Supplemental tryouts for the Travel Development and Travel teams will be held in late February or early March.
