Theatergoers in the area will have an opportunity to see several Wilton talents spread their theatrical wings onstage at the “Broadway Bound Theatre Festival” in New Canaan.
“Flags,” by playwright Tom Mullen is being directed by Wilton resident Skip Ploss and includes Wilton’s Aiden Cannavino, Alexis Onthank, Anthony Presta, and Liam Gallary in the cast. Wiltonian Molly DeLuca is stage managing. (Fans may know Ploss from his work directing shows at the Wilton Playshop and Wilton Children’s Theater; both Ploss and Presta work for the Wilton Public Schools as well.
The festival’s description explains the show, set during World War II: “Chaos reigns near the end of the War in the Pacific so Gabriel sheds his wings to lead a band of Marines at Okinawa, thinking America to be the last, best hope for humanity. But when the platoon realizes the flag-raising at Iwo Jima was a publicity stunt designed to sell war bonds, they begin to question the righteousness of their cause. The women they’ve left behind cope with an uncertain future as their homeland teeters on the edge of bankruptcy and their lives and dreams remain in limbo.”
Cannavino plays ‘Archangel Gabriel,’ Presta plays ‘Mike,’ Onthank plays ‘Laverna,’ and Gallary plays ‘Marconi.’
