Wilton teen Ian Sanders placed 28 of 245 students in the Cadet Men’s Epee Fencing competition at the Junior Olympics in Richmond, VA on Feb. 14-16. Seeded at 217 of 245, Sander’s finish at 28th was considered a tremendous accomplishment.
Sanders’ finish qualified him for the “July Challenge,” a national competition in San Jose, CA this summer. A “D-level” fencer, he is currently listed 76th in his age/weapon class on the United States Fencing Association (USFA) national rankings. A sophomore at Wilton High School, Ian trains with coach Andrey Chushko at the Stamford Fencing Center. He is a member of the Wilton High School Fencing Club.
