The Wilton Family YMCA is one of 18 organizations set to receive a generous grant supporting programs that focus on closing the “achievement gap” in education. The grant will be announced at a ceremony later today, by the Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund of the Westport Weston Family YMCA.

The Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund was formed in 2015 thanks to a $40 million bequest to the Westport Weston Y from Ruth T. Bedford, a longtime supporter and trustee emeritus of the Westport Y, following her death in 2014 at age 99. A fund was started to give back to the community by providing one year grants to organizations that focus on efforts to closing the “achievement gap” in education. Grants are awarded through a competitive application process and intended to enhance educational opportunities in a transformational way.

Grants recipients are 501(c) (3) organizations serving children and/or young adults that are located in and serving one or more of the following communities:  Westport, Weston, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk and Wilton.
