The Wilton branch of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA hosted the Spring Sparkle Gymnastics Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, April 5-6, the last home meet of this season. Five teams from across Connecticut and Rhode Island competed against Wilton’s YMCA gymnasts for recognition — Darien, Meriden, Ocean Community, Rye and Westport / Weston.
The Riverbrook Regional YMCA was adorned with spring flowers and colors as the gymnasts performed and received awards that sparkled. A highlight of the weekend was when Sophia Howell (age 10, Level 4 gymnast from Wilton) scored a perfect 10 on floor.
“It was the best feeling ever to get a perfect score, especially doing it with my team right there cheering me on! I’m so thankful for my coaches and teammates, and I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead,” Howell shared with a beaming smile.
Overall, Wilton received 28 individual all-around titles and 119 event titles. As for team standings, both Level 2 and Level 3 were awarded second place, while both Level 4 and Xcel Gold won first place.
