Wilton YMCA Gymnasts Bring Home Six Medals from USA Gymnastics Team Challenge

At the USA Gymnastics Team Challenge held last Friday, Feb. 21, two Level 7 gymnasts from the Wilton YMCA Gymnastics Team started the day, competing in the first session, and seven Level 6 gymnasts ended the day, taking on the last session. Between the nine athletes, Wilton won a combined six medals against teams from across the Northeast.

Level 7 Junior Ashley Umhoefer scored 9.1 on beam. L7 Intermediate Alyssa Smeriglio made a trip to the podium for her 9.0 on beam.

Level 6 Junior Mia Decore’s lovely beam routine scored 9.2. L6 Intermediate Teagan Stengrim scored 9.087 on her floor routine to place 4th, while also placing 6th on vault. Cailyn Cruickshank’s strong and steady beam routine scored 9.45 for 4th, and her 9.1 on floor led to the bronze medal in her division. Kailyn Talisse finished in the top 8 in vault, beam and floor.

In the Level 6 Senior division, Ella Mancuso finished with the team’s highest All Around score, earning 9.0 on beam and placing 4th on floor with a 9.2. Ella Arghirescu landed a new skill on floor and scored 9.15, and fought strong on beam to earn a 9.25. Elly Fahey’s fun floor routine earned 9.0.
